Middlesbrough beat Chelsea 1-0 last night in the first leg of the League Cup semi final on a cold evening up north.
Chelsea were poor, there are no two ways about it and no way to dress it up or make any excuses, we are all tired of excuses.
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick had a game plan, according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella of The Evening Standard, and his game plan worked a treat.
What he did was target Chelsea’s weak area, the left back spot, where Pochettino consistently insists on playing a 6ft 2in centre back.
Levi Colwill had a very bad game, and mostly that is because he is SO uncomfortable playing as a full back.
Carrick knew that and he targeted it. That is where their goal came from, they got that and then just defended for their lives.
Kinsella wrote: “Michael Carrick knew Levi Colwill would play at left-back and his game-plan was to exploit that.
“Winger Isaiah Jones had the beating of the 20-year-old and gave them the outlet they needed to release the pressure.
“Jones set up the Middlesbrough goal by outpacing Colwill before cutting it back to midfielder Hackney.”
55.2% of Middlesbrough's attacks came down their right and Chelsea's left side. Michael Carrick's game plan undoubtedly worked despite having 14 players out (including the two who went off in the first half).
(Yes, I know Chelsea had 12 out). https://t.co/RVZQrPwoPU

Once again, the setup was just all too obvious and predictable from Mauricio Pochettino, who is once again under immense pressure from the Chelsea fanbase at least.
