Inter Milan Unlikely To Offer Contract Extension To Ex Juventus & Chelsea Veteran

Inter Milan are unlikely to offer a contract extension to former Juventus and Chelsea wingback Juan Cuadrado.

Italian news outlet FCInterNews anticipate that the Colombian will leave the Nerazzurri on a free transfer. Cuadrado is hoping to stay in Europe, but there is interest from South America.

Cuadrado joined Inter on a free transfer from Juventus last summer.

It would be an understatement to say that the move came as a surprise.

Cuadrado had spent eight years playing for the Bianconeri. And he had often been at the centre of flashpoint incidents in Derby d’Italia clashes with Inter.

Therefore, there was some genuine hostility from Nerazzurri fans towards the idea of signing Cuadrado.

And Juventus supporters, for their part, were not exactly thrilled to see the Colombian make the switch.

But Inter decided that Cuadrado would be an intelligent reinforcement, providing reliable quality at low cost.

And the veteran wingback, for his part, jumped at the chance to continue to play for a club at the top level.

Inter Unlikely To Offer Juan Cuadrado A Contract Extension

Cuadrado only signed a one-year deal with Inter last summer.

That means that the 35-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of June. Therefore, if Inter do not offer him a new deal he will leave via the same route he came – a free transfer.

According to FCIN, there is little prospect of Inter putting the offer of an extension on the table.

Cuadrado has been restricted in his contribution this season due to injury.

The Colombian had suffered from tendon problems throughout the first half of the season. Then, he underwent surgery in December to correct the problem, subsequently being on the sidelines for around four months.

Cuadrado’s lively substitute appearance against Sassuolo over the weekend perhaps showed what he can still contribute.

It was no mere token run-out for the veteran. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi showed his faith in Cuadrado to come on and change the game in what had been a fairly drab performance.

Nevertheless, a contract extension is not likely on the cards for Cuadrado.

As for where the former Juventus man will go next, FCIN report that Cuadrado still wants to play in Europe.
