Legendary former Inter Milan defender feels that Marcus Thuram is comparable to Inter Milan in one particular respect.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 win over Fiorentina, via FCInterNews, the former defender noted that Thuram has an ability to keep the ball and set up teammates similar to Dzeko.

Thuram got his first ever goal in an Inter shirt against Fiorentina yesterday.

This was certainly a significant moment in the Frenchman’s Nerazzurri career.

However, the goal was only the cherry on top of an overall very positive performance by Thuram. And it was a display that very much resembled those against Monza and Cagliari.

Thuram has shown that even when he does not get himself on the scoresheet, he can help the team in other ways.

The 26-year-old had assisted Denzel Dumfries against Cagliari.

And, in general, Thuram has not looked afraid to drop deep, get on the ball, and make things happen.

This is not far away from how Dzeko had played in his two seasons at Inter. The Bosnian even gained a reputation as something of a “striker-regista” for how he would drop into midfield and let the play pass through his feet.

Bergomi Says Thuram A Lot Like Dzeko

Against Fiorentina, Thuram showed the quick feet, first touch, passing vision, and strength and balance to hold onto possession even in tight spaces.

This aided him as he drifted around the pitch.

Bergomi observed that “I’m not as big of a fan of Thuram attacking in behind so much as of how he manages the ball.”

“In that aspect he reminds me of Dzeko,” the former defender noted.

“The way he acts as a playmakmer for his teammates is amazing.”

Bergomi argued that “Inter are a self-aware team. They don’t just hit the throttle right from the start.”

“They show respect for their opponents,” he said of the Nerazzurri. “And then once they unlock the match, it’s great to see how they can counterattack.”

Regarding Inter’s defender, Bergomi said that “De Vrij is playing very well.”

“Everyone defends well,” he said.

“Compared to last season, the entire team looks compact.”

“Every now and then they risk conceding counterattacks because all the midfielders are Number Tens, but the defenders take care.”

Bergomi predicted that “I expect Pavard will take over as the first-choice starter. But Darmian is like a computer, he’s always precise.”
