Sheffield United fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it has been revealed that John Egan’s injury, which led to his early substitution in Saturday’s draw with Everton, does not seem to be serious.

Egan, the Blades captain, was replaced by Chris Basham in the 68th minute of the 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane. Although he joined the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their crucial matches against France and the Netherlands for the Euro Championship qualifiers, Egan underwent a scan immediately to assess the knee and ankle issues that prompted his early exit last Saturday.

In case Egan had to withdraw, Andrew Omobamidele was included in the squad after his recent transfer from Norwich City to Nottingham Forest. The Republic of Ireland squad trained on Tuesday morning before heading to Paris for Thursday night’s Euro Championship qualifier. Egan was on the pitch during the training session, dispelling concerns that he might not be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur when Sheffield United’s Premier League campaign continues after the international break.

Although he hasn’t had the best of starts this term, Egan has been an instrumental player for United since joining them back in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has made over 220 appearances for the Blades, missing out on just 12 league games across five seasons [Transfermarkt].
