'He’s very thorough, very precise, he’s a disciplinarian' – Pochettino’s former players on how he can change Chelsea

With Mauricio Pochettino all but confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager, the profiles can begin, and the one produced by the Daily Telegraph is an absolutely textbook effort.

It covers some interesting snippets plucked from his book, as well as stories told by his former players at Spurs and Southampton.

Rickie Lambert tells a story of how he tried to get the coach to reduce the running the squad had to do on Mondays after they played at the weekend. Instead, he just earned them more runings.

Danny Rose says that his former coach was “very thorough” and “very precise” and called him a “disciplinarian,” noting an example of how Pochettino had prepared 26 clips of mistakes that he had made in a game on one occasion.

All of this sounds very tempting to a Chelsea fanbase who see a squad with low standards, in desperate need of a boot up the backside. Players don’t always take kindly to it, but as you can tell from the way that Lambert and Rose tell the stories, they appreciate the success such behaviours bring.
