Monza director Adriano Galliani reveals he immediately called Paolo Maldini after seeing his son Daniel find the net against Salernitana: ‘Finally a Maldini who scores goals!’

Maldini netted his first Monza goal on Saturday in a 2-0 away victory at Salernitana.

The product of Milan Academy joined the Brianzoli on loan in the January transfer window, after a six-month loan at Empoli. Matteo Pessina scored the other goal of the day for Monza on Saturday.

Monza director Galliani has revealed that he called Milan legend Paolo Maldini, Daniel’s father, after the game.

“To me, it’s very romantic that two guys, one born in Milan and one born in Monza, scored against Salernitana. One grew up at the Milan Academy, the other at the Monza Academy. To me, it’s the best thing,” Galliani told Gazzetta.

“In fact, the first person I called after the Salernitana game was Paolo Maldini. I told him: ‘Finally, I have a Maldini that scores goals! Not a full-back like the one I had for many years’.”
