Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been banned for eight matches as punishment for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh.

Mitrovic was shown a straight red card during Fulham's 3-1 loss at Manchester United in the FA Cup last month.

The 28-year-old was sent off after putting his hands on referee Kavanagh while complaining about the official's decision to show a red card to teammate Willian.

Winger Willian had seen red for denying United a goal with a handball offence.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was sent off too, for displaying abusive behavior towards the match officials.

Mitrovic will now be unavailable for Fulham's next seven matches, having already served part of his ban by missing Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.

He will be unavailable for matches against West Ham, Everton, Leeds, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester.

Mitrovic's first game back will likely be away to Southampton on May 13. He should also be available to play against Crystal Palace on May 20. Fulham will end their campaign with another trip to Old Trafford on the final day of the Premier League season.

In addition to his suspension, Mitrovic was ordered by the Football Association to pay a £75,000 fine.

Silva must pay £40,000 in fines - £20,000 for the incident which resulted in his red card and another £20,000 for comments he made in the media afterwards.

The FA has also issued a separate fine to Fulham FC for "the failure to prevent its players surrounding the referee".
