Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United have not had any contacts with Zinedine Zidane, despite rumours hitting the media over the past week amid the uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future as manager.

Romano is of the belief that Ten Hag has held some positive initial discussions with Ineos Sports group, which would suggest the writing isn’t exactly written on the wall just yet.

It has been reported elsewhere that the Dutchman’s future may be decided on whether United qualify for the Champions League and/or win the FA Cup.

Zidane has been linked with the United job as a result but Romano states that no contact has been made with the Frenchman, who won the Champions League three times as manager of Real Madrid.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano stressed there has been no talks between Zidane and United.

“I’m aware there have been more reports about Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United, with Zinedine Zidane the latest name mentioned as a candidate for that job. I must stress, though, that I’m not aware of contacts between Zidane and Manchester United so far. Nothing is concrete on that, as of now.”

The lack of clarity surrounding Ten Hag’s job could prove to be a hindrance. The Dutch coach needs results or else he’ll continue to walk the tightrope.

Furthermore, United are being linked with a swoop for Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman to become Head of Recruitment.
