Fabio Capello Judges Roma, Milan, Napoli and Lazio

Fabio Capello has criticized Milan for their derby performance, but believes they played an ‘excellent’ match in the UEFA Champions league opener against Newcastle United despite the draw.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Capello took stock of the teams in the race for the Scudetto title, pointing to Lazio as contenders if they keep improving.

“Napoli seemed to be improving in cup competitions, but the Azzurri need to rediscover the desire to press from last year, and the best of both Kvara and Osimhen. Lazio started slowly and the farewell of Milinkovic Savic is being felt: the other day to score a header, Provedel had to go into the area. Jokes aside, the team I saw Sarri better against Atletico and he will improve in the championship.”

The once-revered tactician, now turned pundit, also spoke of two of his former teams.

“I didn’t like Milan in the derby, but they played an excellent match in the Champions League. And Roma depends a lot on the Dybala-Lukaku duo.

Only three teams have made unbeaten starts to the 2023/24 Serie A – Juventus, Inter and Lecce – as the table gradually starts taking shape. The Nerazzurri, of all, remain as favorites to dethrone Napoli and lift the Scudetto for the first time in three seasons.
