Dzeko Examines Inter Resolve to Snub Serie A Last Season

Edin Dzeko believes the Nerazzurri diverted all their attention to the UEFA Champions League last season instead of Serie A. While Simone Inzaghi’s Inter were left undone by Manchester City in the final, Napoli bulldozed their way enroute a historic Scudetto title after 33 years, leaving no chance for other sides.

In an interview with Prime Video (via Tuttomercatoweb), Dzeko revealed the psyche in the Nerazzurri camp.

“Last year Inzaghi was under pressure because the results in the league were not arriving. The Champions League is the most important competition: perhaps we gave everything in that, and we thought that Serie A was a little less important.”

Inter replaced Dzeko with Marcus Thuram in the frontline, and the former’s absence has rarely been felt as the latter has already made four goal contributions in five matches.

“I see him going well, along with Lautaro Martinez. Thuram has had to adapt to the Italian championship, but I don’t think he has major problems from this point of view.”

Dzeko moved to Fenerbahce from the Nerazzurri over the summer on a two-year contract. He won four trophies with Inter in two seasons – two Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana each – scoring 31 goals across 101 appearances.
