Wednesday News Update

WWE

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • At today’s NJPW Battle Autumn tour show, Hikuleo cut a promo saying that he wants to beat Karl Anderson for the NEVER Openweight Championship and doesn’t want Anderson to vacate the title. NJPW has issued a statement saying that Anderson will be stripped of the title if he doesn’t defend it against Hikuleo on November 5 in Osaka.
  • Anderson responded to Hikuleo on Twitter: “I’m not vacating anything. I’m the greatest #NeverOpenweightChampion of all time. I’ll defend it on my time ….. get with my booking agent [Luke Gallows]. I’ll see ya then @Hiku_Leo. That’s #TooSweet”
  • Douki missed today’s NJPW show due to a fever. His COVID-19 test came back negative, but he wasn’t cleared to compete out of an abundance of caution.

  • While appearing on the Swerve City podcast, Britt Baker revealed the “great advice” she’s gotten from Charlotte Flair about dealing with online criticism: “Back to Charlotte, her and I have chatted, and she has given me so much great advice just to get through this. She's given me solid advice to just stay true to what you know is true. Don't worry about the narratives that fans are creating or what they want to be true because you know what's going on and what you're working with. She's been fantastic to me.”
  • Wardlow named Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson as people who are leaders in the AEW locker room:
          • Everybody backstage has done such a great job at communicating and we’ve been, honestly through all the, you know, you said ‘chaos’… fortunately, on the inside, it has made us so much tighter and I feel like since all that stuff happened, these past couple months have really changed the locker room and we have some really, really positive leadership. Guys like [Chris] Jericho and [Jon] Moxley and Bryan Danielson, they are true leaders and very passionate and they’ve done such a good job of getting the locker room together and on the same page and getting our company on the right track.
          • Yeah, absolutely [it feels like a cohesive unit again]… We talked about this recently. I really feel like our locker room is as tight as it was when we first started a few years ago because when we first started man, we were all on the same mission, we were a family and then we survived COVID together where we spent more time with each other than our families.
