2010 Treble Winner Declares: ‘Inter Milan Vs Juventus One Of The Biggest Matches In The World – But It’s Not Worth 4 Points’

Former Nerazzurri midfielder Wesley Sneijder believes that Inter Milan against Juventus is one of the biggest matches in the world.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder also noted that at the end of the day, the Derby d’Italia is still worth three points like any other match.

Inter host Juventus at the San Siro this evening.

The league meeting will pit first and second in the Serie A table.

One point separates the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, albeit with the former also having a game in hand.

Meanwhile, there is greater significance to the fixture than just the points on offer and the fight for trophies.

Of course, the possibility of the match being a title-decider makes it all the higher in stakes.

But the Derby d’Italia is also a match with a special atmosphere in itself.

Matches between Inter and Juventus are always among the showpiece occasions in Italian football. This is a result of the longstanding rivalry, and at times animosity, between the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

Former Inter midfielder Sneijder, who won the European Treble with the Nerazzurri in 2010, gave his thoughts.

Sneijder gave the view that “It’s a match that’s on par with the biggest ‘Classico’ matches in the world.”

“You live for nights like this,” the Dutchman continued.

“To feel the full San Siro shaking under your feet.”

“A bit like what also happened in the derby against Milan,” Sneijder noted.

The Treble-winner also stressed that “This match is not worth four points.”

“At the end of the day it’s worth three points, just like all the other matches.”

“Inter are ahead in the table, and have a game in hand to play,” Sneijder noted.

“But who could possibly say that by beating Juventus, they would have already won the Scudetto or that it would be in their pockets?”

“It doesn’t work that way,” Sneijder said.”
