Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk suffers broken leg

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk revealed Tuesday on Instagram that he suffered a broken femur while skating Monday.

Hawk, 53, posted X-rays of his leg that showed a clean break in his leg along with another image showing the rod and screws used to repair the injury.

"Yesterday sucked," Hawk wrote in the caption. "I broke my elbow 20 years ago and managed to make a full comeback; this recovery for a broken femur will be much harder because of its severity (and my age). But I’m up for the challenge.

"I’ve said many times that I won’t stop skating until I am physically unable. A broken leg - with plenty of hardware - will probably be the biggest test of that creed. I’ll be back… maybe not at full capacity but I resigned to that notion years ago as I approached 'mid-life.'"

Hawk retired from competing in skateboarding professionally in 2003 after winning 10 gold, three silver, and three bronze medals at the X-Games over the course of his career. In addition to his tremendously successful competitive career, Hawk is also the namesake of the widely popular video game series, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
