Yaroslav Askarov, Mark Jankowski Receive January AHL Honors
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Admirals have kicked off the new year with eleven wins in a row thanks to excellent play up and down the lineup, and today the AHL called out two Admirals for their performances in the month of January. Goaltender Yaroslav Askarov was named AHL's Goalie of the Month while forward Mark Jankowski was named the AHL's Player of the Month.

Jankowski, a 2012 draft pick by the Calgary Flames, played eleven games in January and scored seven goals and 18 points in that stretch. Jankowski scored eight goals in 26 games before going on a scoring tear in January that included two multi-goal games. He is playing on a prolific top line with Zachary L'Heureux and Egor Afanasyev who have scored five and six goals respectively in January with Jankowski centering them.

Jankowski currently leads the Admirals in points with 44 and is third overall in the AHL for points as well. The 29-year-old was recalled to Nashville to play two games in early December in which he scored a goal.

Yaroslav Askarov was named the Goalie of the Month, and his stats in January are impressive. In his eight starts, Askarov has gone 8-0-0 and earned a .941 save percentage and 1.73 goals against average while facing an average of 29.75 shots per game in January.  Nashville's 2020 11th overall draft pick also recorded three shutouts in January — his first shutouts of the season.

Askarov also joined Nashville briefly this season in late December. He played the third period against the Carolina Hurricanes on December 27 and earned his first NHL win in a shootout victory over the Washington Capitals on December 30.

Askarov and Jankowski are two important pieces in an exciting run in Milwaukee. The Admirals have outscored their opponents 46-17 in the month of January. They have had to come from behind, play overtime, and win in the shootout to keep their win streak alive.

The Admirals will look to continue their wining ways tomorrow night against the Manitoba Moose at home. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm CT. AHLTV.com will broadcast the game and The Big 920 (WOKY) and the iheartradio app will have the call.
