Chicago Blackhawks’ defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk will make his 2021-22 regular-season debut on Friday vs. the St. Louis Blues. Interim head coach Derek King made the announcement at Thursday’s practice.

Kalynuk spent the beginning of the season on injured reserve due to a right ankle sprain. The Blackhawks activated him on November 9 and assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs shortly after.

In four games at the AHL level this season, Kalynuk has three points (one goal, two assists) and a +1 rating.

In 21 games for the Hawks last season, he showed strong offensive ability by recording nine points (four goals, five assists).

When fellow defenseman Riley Stillman went down with an injury on Sunday, the Blackhawks recalled Wyatt Kalynuk from Rockford. He did not play Tuesday at Calgary, but his NHL season debut will come on Black Friday vs. the Blues. Based on line rushes at Thursday’s practice, Kalynuk will likely draw in for Caleb Jones on the blue line.
