Dallas Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood made an early exit from Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers after suffering an apparent injury in the second period.

Wedgewood, 30, had to be stretchered off the ice after making a pair of stops against Panthers forward Anton Lundell on a breakaway with just over five minutes remaining in the middle frame.

After making his second save on Lundell, Wedgewood remained down on the ice in his crease and threw off his blocker before appearing to favor his back area.

Jake Oettinger replaced Wedgewood between the pipes with 5:55 remaining in the second period.

The Stars originally acquired Wedgewood from the Arizona Coyotes at the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for a conditional 2023 third-round draft selection.

The New Jersey Devils selected Wedgewood in the third round (No. 84 overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft. The Brampton, ON product made his NHL debut with the Devils in 2015–16 before taking on an increased NHL role with the Coyotes in 2017–18.

Wedgewood subsequently returned to the NHL with New Jersey in 2020–21 before rejoining the Coyotes the following season. After being traded to the Stars, Wedgewood signed a two-year contract extension with the team.

In 84 career NHL games over parts of five regular seasons with New Jersey, Arizona, and Dallas, Wedgewood has posted a 26–36–15 record to go along with a .906 save percentage.

The 6’2″, 205-pound goaltender entered Thursday’s action with a 3–3–1 record and a .901 save percentage in seven appearances with the Stars to begin the 2022–23 season.
