St. Louis Blues sign Hugh McGing to two-year extension

McGing spent the 2023-24 season with the Blues’ AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds where he tallied eight goals and 31 assists for 39 points in 51 games. He ranked tied for first among Thunderbirds skaters in assists and fouth in points. McGing also appeared in five games with the Blues.

McGing was initially selected No. 138 by the Blues in the 2018 NHL Draft. He spent four years with Western Michigan University and was captain of the team during the 2019-20 season. That year, McGing notched a career-high and team-leading 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists) in 35 games; he was named to the NCAA NCHC First All-Star Team, NCAA West All-American Team and NCAA Lowes Senior Class All-American Team.

He made his AHL debut in 2020-21 with the Utica Comets; he had four points in 23 games. He found a regular role in the lineup with the Thunderbirds the following season, posting 34 points in 67 games and adding seven points in 18 AHL playoff games.
