San Jose, CA – After starting the 2023-24 season with five alternate captains, the San Jose Barracuda have named their fifth captain in franchise history.  Ryan CarpenterNathan ToddScott SabourinCole Cassels and Justin Bailey wore the “A” this season, but none of them were bestowed the honor of having a “C” affixed to their sweater. It was 31-year old defenseman Radim Simek who impressed Head Coach John McCarthy and General Manager Joe Will as a leader on and off the ice.

“Radim has provided the room with a lot of leadership since he joined the Barracuda at the start of the season,” said Will in the team’s press release. “His professional approach on a daily basis is contagious. As this season has progressed, it became clear that he was the right choice to be our captain and we’re excited for him to take on this responsibility.”

“Radim has done everything that we’ve asked from him this season,” said McCarthy in the team’s press release. “He’s a great pro and he has had a positive influence on all the players and staff. His work ethic and attitude made giving him the “C” an easy decision.”

Over the course of 31 games this season, Simek has scored 15 points in the form of four goals and 11 assists.

He recently played in his 100th AHL game on January 27, 2024.
