Ryan Reynolds finds partner for bid on Senators ownership

It seems that Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds found a partnership for his bid on the Ottawa Senators. According to Ottawa Sun reporter Bruce Garrioch, he will work with real estate developers Remington Group.

Remington Group is a residential and commercial real estate developer that builds and operates residential, retail and commercial properties. While the company is led by CEO Rudy Bratty, one of his four sons, Remington Group president Christopher Bratty, leads the bid along with several other partners.

Some of the believed goals of both Remington Group and Reynolds are the desire to build a consistently competitive team on the ice, as well as grow the brand of the Senators and build a new stadium at LeBreton Flats.

If Reynolds is involved, he also plans to bring his film production company Maximum Effort to produce a series on the purchase of the franchise. Maximum Effort was responsible for filming the Disney+ series "Welcome to Wrexham," which showcases Reynolds’ purchasing of Wrexham AFC, a Welsh football club in the National League that he co-owns with "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Rob McElhenney. While the team hasn’t been promoted out of the National League just yet, the duo have done an excellent job of acquiring talent and building the team’s brand, something that Reynolds will likely also bring to the table with the Senators if the reports are true.

Reynolds has been pursuing the Senators ownership for several months since he cryptically tweeted that he was interested in putting a stake in the hockey team, later confirming it on the "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," as well as making an appearance at Canadian Tire Centre shortly after. While Reynolds will work with Remington Group to financially back the team, it’s believed that Reynolds will operate as the face of the Sens franchise and play a role in the decision-making for the team if the bid is successful.

While Reynolds is better known for his Hollywood career in movies/TV shows like "Deadpool," "Just Friends," and "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place," he has also carved out a solid career as a businessman. Along with his ownership of Wrexham AFC, he also has stakes at companies like Aviation American Gin and Mint Mobile.

The Senators have had an ownership vacancy since the passing of Eugene Melnyk on March 28, 2022. His daughters Olivia and Anna assumed some of the duties since his passing but decided to sell the franchise to another client.
