Report: Ex-Flyers Defenseman Provorov Already On NHL Trade Block
Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

After just seven months, it’s possible former Philadelphia Flyers standout Ivan Provorov could be on the move once again.

The Flyers traded Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Kings on June 6, yielding a return of Cal Petersen, Sean Walker, Helge Grans, a 2023 first-round pick (Oliver Bonk), a 2024-second round pick, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick for Philadelphia.

The Blue Jackets are far below the Flyers in the NHL standings at the moment, wallowing away at 29th in the league at the time of this writing. As a result, per NHL insider Darren Dreger on TSN’s latest “Insider Trading“, the Blue Jackets are listening on a potential Ivan Provorov trade.

“Jarmo Kekalainen, the general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is willing to listen on a couple of big-name guys, like Patrik Laine and Ivan Provorov, and there are others,” Dreger said.

Dreger also mentioned that Adam Fantilli is “untouchable” and that it’s highly unlikely that a “heart-and-soul” guy like captain Boone Jenner gets traded, even with his appealing contract.

Based on head coach John Tortorella’s comments about the locker room all season long, it is extremely safe to say that a Provorov reunion in Philadelphia is off the table for the Flyers. It is, however, interesting that a Blue Jackets team that was committed to winning in the offseason is already willing to sell and sell hard.

Columbus is also likely aware that they haven’t reached the postseason since moving on from Tortorella, though I’m sure the Flyers are more than happy to have the veteran behind their bench with the success they’ve had and the foundation they’ve built this season.
