Red Wings recall Taro Hirose from AHL’s Griffins on emergency basis
NHL: New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
Prior to puck drop versus the Ottawa Senators, the Detroit Red Wings have recalled forward Taro Hirose under emergency conditions once again, the club announced Tuesday. In most cases, recalling a skater on an emergency basis usually suggests that someone’s battling an injury and might not be available to play that night. It remains to be seen if that’s the situation with the Red Wings. Most likely, Tuesday’s pre-game skate should provide an update as to which skater could be out of Detroit’s lineup, especially if Hirose participates in the warmup. In his fourth NHL season, Hirose, 25, has appeared in 12 games with the Red Wings, averaging 10:26 minutes of ice-time per night. Thus far, he’s posted one goal, four points, seven shots on goal, six hits, two blocks and one takeaway. During his time with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the left-hander has scored 14 goals and 47 points through 54 contests this season. Detroit will welcome Ottawa to Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. Cossa leads
