Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde has confirmed that captain Dylan Larkin is sidelined day-to-day and will not play Wednesday against the New York Rangers.

There was no other information provided.

Larkin has tallied eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 20 games, leading the Red Wings. Larkin scored the game-winning goal on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild and registered a powerplay assist.

Last season, the Waterford Township, Michigan product recorded a career-high 32 goals and 47 assists for 79 points in 80 regular season games. He is currently in year one of an eight-year, $69.6M contract extension he signed in March.

Larkin was selected 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Draft and has spent the entirety of his eight-season career in Detroit. He was one of the rare Red Wings prospects to make the team in just his second year after the draft and was named the captain for the 2020-21 season after Henrik Zetterberg had to stop playing due to a degenerative back condition.

Meanwhile, Lalonde added that defenseman Justin Holl is questionable for the game against the Rangers. Holl has three assists in 16 games this season. The Tonka Bay, Minnesota product signed a three-year, $10.2 million contract with the Red Wings following years spent in Toronto.

Additionally, defenseman Jake Walman is expected to return to the lineup and play against the Rangers. Walman has missed the last few games with an illness and previously missed time after with an injury. The 27-year-old has four goals and four assists in 18 games this season.
