NHL Wednesday bets: Five shot props that stick out

We had a fantastic night here Tuesday, and the goal now is to carry that momentum over to this new day. We have just a few games left of the NHL regular season, and then we're full steam into the postseason.

Let's finish strong, here are five shots on goal (SOG) looks that stick out to start the day.

James van Riemsdyk over 2.5 SOG (+140 DK)

JVR really catches the eye, as he's now hit his SOG in four straight games and still has a price tag at +140. His attempt numbers have been solid in this stretch as you might imagine, averaging six per game.

I like targeting Winnipeg, given they see 36.4 shots per game against them at home in the last 10, and you could argue JVR also likes targeting Winnipeg.

Earlier this year, van Riemsdyk poured on seven shots on goal against the Jets, and in 21 career games against this franchise, he's gone for three-plus shots 13 times, good for a 62% rate.

I'm following a streaking player, a generous opponent and a history that suggests shots are coming.

Josh Morrissey over 2.5 SOG (+115 DK)

Let me start with a disclaimer: Josh Morrissey has hit his SOG just once in the last seven games. If that scares you, I understand, but let me also note his last hit was in his last game.

So why are we targeting him? 

This home-road split is absolutely shocking. On the road, Morrissey has missed his SOG in six straight, which are all in this recent seven-game streak.

However, at home, Morrissey has been near automatic. The defensemen has gone for three-plus SOG in nine of his past 10 home games, averaging 7.4 shot attempts per game in his last five.

Philly allows 35.8 shots per game on the road in their last ten and the ninth-most shots to defensemen since March 1.

I like the spot here to target a home streak. He came back home three days ago and continued right where he left off, putting up three SOG on eight attempts.

Mika Zibanejad over 2.5 SOG (-135 DK)

Just like that, Mika Zibanejad is starting to get juiced again, but I'm following him after he came through for us Tuesday night.

Zibanejad has now hit in five of his past seven, but it's really the opponent that makes this a must-play for me.

Montreal is allowing 36 shots per game on the road in their past 10 and seeing the third-most shots from the center position since the beginning of March.

As New York's top-line center, Zibanejad is set up nicely Wednesday.

Shea Theodore over 2.5 SOG (+120 DK)

Chicago has been getting peppered by shots for weeks now, with their home average up to 35.5 allowed in the last 10.

They've been particularly generous to both centers and defensemen, and Wednesday I'm rolling with the latter position in Shea Theodore.

Theodore has covered his SOG in five straight, averaging 8.4 attempts per game in that span.

In two games against Chicago this season, Theodore has finished with five and four SOG. I like that streak to continue here against a Blackhawks team allowing the eighth-most shots to defensemen since March 1.

Roope Hintz over 2.5 SOG (+100 DK)

We will soon say goodbye to betting centers against Arizona, so it's best we soak it up as long as we can. No team is allowing more shots to the position than the Coyotes, and we have a few viable options on the Dallas end to consider Wednesday.

Ultimately, I'm rolling with Roope Hintz off a big game at even-money instead of Tyler Seguin. If you don't like the juice on Zibanejad, I think a parlay with Seguin is a fine look.

Back to Hintz, who has hit in two straight and 61% at home this year. My hope here is we ride the momentum of Tuesday night's big win, Hintz poured on six shots on eight attempts.

What put him over the edge Wednesday is his involvement on the power play. Arizona is tied for first in power-play opportunities allowed from the past 10 games, and Hintz has been leading the shooting charge on the Stars' PP of late.

Given the chances, I think he can get to three. He has also scored a goal in all three meetings this season, which is a good look to consider.
