NHL Friday best bets: Three players to target for props

We pick ourselves up after yesterday's brutal evening. There are ups and downs when it comes to betting the NHL, and it's a new day.

Auston Matthews over 4.5 SOG (-125 DK)

This was a play I mentally locked in last night and bet immediately to start the morning. Pittsburgh is definitely the most generous shot target of the day, and Toronto as a team is shooting the puck far more often at home (35 shots/game at home vs. 27.57 on the road).

Matthews is the rock of this offense and I can't help but like that we have a star-studded game that should push Matthews to be his best. He's over 4.5 shots in three straight home games and five of seven, averaging 9.4 attempts/game in his last five home games.

Penguins are in the top-ten of most shots allowed to centers, and hand out a decent amount of power plays, where Matthews is leading the team in usage.

He went over this number in two of three against Pittsburgh last season. I like him to have a big game tonight

.5u: Matthews goal (+104 CZR)

Miro Heiskanen over 2.5 shots (+108 FD)

I was looking to grab a piece of Dallas shots tonight, given that San Jose is allowing 33.3 shots per game on the road this year and on the second-night of a back-to-back.

While Heiskanen has missed in three straight, they've all been on the road. His shot performance at home this season has been steady. Dallas has played only three games at home, and Heiskanen is over 2.5 shots each time. His attempts go up by nearly two when at home, and I love the +108 price we can get for the Stars defensemen.

Speaking of defensemen, the Sharks have been generous to d-men shots of late. Over their last five games, 12 of 16 defensemen have registered 2+ shots against them, with some big games coming from the team's top defensemen. John Klingberg had 7 SOG vs. SJ on 11/1, Brandon Montour and Gustav Forsling each had 4+ recently,  and Justin Faulk piled up 5 shots on net last night.

Give me Heiskanen shots, and I'll also grab his point. He has five points in three home games and dating back to last year he has a point in seven of his last eight in Dallas. The Stars are averaging 3.8 goals per game in their home games this season.

.5u: Heiskanen point (-110 DK)

Timo Meier over 4.5 SOG (-102 FD)

We stick in this game and go back to our old reliable in Timo Meier. Timo is at such reasonable odds because in comparison to some of the other teams in the league, Dallas is a bit stingy to shots.

While the Sharks as a team don't get off many SOG, it's the same guys each game that are delivering the volume. Meier is over this 4.5 number in 11 of 15 games this season, and I'm actually excited that he went under last night, finishing with four.

First of all, Meier registered four without a single minute of ice time on the power play. That won't be the case tonight against a Dallas team allowing the fourth-most power play opportunities per game. Meier is leading the Sharks in power play shots by a sizable margin, so if he gets the 3-4 PP chances that the Stars so often give out, he should get his shots.

Meier hasn't gone under 4.5 in two straight games this season, bouncing back each time he's missed. This will also be his fourth back-to-back of the year, and he's finished with 5 SOG in all three previous instances of the second night of a B2B.

Meier has a goal in four straight games, so we'll bet on that to keep rolling this evening in addition to his shots.

.5u: Meier goal (+150 DK)

Enjoy your Friday puck picks! Let's get back on track in this market.
