NHL bets: Player props lead the way for Wednesday 1/25

Last night was solid on the ice, and while tonight's schedule doesn't quite offer the same excitement, there are a few spots worthy of a bet. We're keeping our focus on the player prop market with four NHL plays this evening.

Brady Tkachuk & Connor McDavid over 3.5 SOG (+164 DK)

This one feels relatively simple, but I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with that. Brady Tkachuk will face the Islanders tonight, a team allowing north of 35 shots per game over their last 10 on the road.

New York's biggest positional vulnerability has been shots from the LW this year, allowing the eighth-most shots to the position, so check that box for Tkachuk here. Tkachuk has hit this number in 71% of home game this season and six of his last seven. The last two times the Islanders have come to Ottawa, Tkachuk has finished with five and six SOG.

Then there's McDavid who should be able to find some shots against a Columbus team we target on the regular. This is going to be a popular one, and it's hard for me to pass it up.

McDavid has gone for 4+ SOG in eight straight games and 76% of home games this year. Last time the Blue Jackets came to Edmonton, McDavid had five shots on net.

Leon Draisaitl assist & JT Miller point (+124 DK)

Edmonton and Vancouver are my two favorite spots for goals tonight, so naturally we look to find some consistent production in that vein.

Curiously, Leon Draisaitl's shots are way down. Over his last three games, Draisaitl has attempted only five shots, with just two on net. That's quite unusual, but his effectiveness hasn't stalled, notching five points in his past three and 16 over his last 10.

At home, Draisiatl has an assist in 10 straight and 75% on the year, and with the attempts waning, I'm following the current version of Draisaitl: the creator.

I'll be pairing him with JT Miller to log a point in Seattle. The Kraken (read: Martin Jones) haven't shied away from letting in goals, and Jones has allowed 13 goals in his last three starts.

Miller has a point in every career game against Seattle, eight total in six games. He has 11 points in his last 10 overall and six points in his past five on the road.

.5u: Mitch Marner over 2.5 SOG (-102 FD)

I do expect Toronto to find themselves 31+ shots tonight, and while a few players like Matthews, Tavares and Nylander have been more consistent, I'm drawn to Mitch Marner.

Now, this may be a crazy read, which is part of the reason I'm bumping it down to .5u. Marner has covered his 2.5 line here just once over the past five, and even less frequently at home.

So, this is what I'm seeing. After a lull in the volume, Marner has 13 attempts and seven SOG over the past two games. It's that, and his rich history against the Rangers, that makes me want to follow Marner tonight. The Maple Leafs winger has gone over 2.5 shots in seven of his past 10 against New York.

.5u: Oliver Bjorkstrand over 2.5 SOG (-114 Barstool)

Now, there is a chance that Vancouver suddenly gets a lot tighter to shots with Rick Tocchet now the coach. In his first game last night, the Canucks won 5-2 and allowed just 14 shots, but it was the Blackhawks so it's a bit difficult for me to glean any true insights from a lowly offense like that.

That's the factor that pushes this down to another half-unit wager, but given that Seattle is averaging 33 shots per game at home over the past 10, I like them to find their spots.

Oliver Bjorkstrand has been the steadiest shooter lately for Seattle, going for three or more shots in four of his last five. At home, he's over in three of four and averaging 5.6 attempts per game in his past five.

In two meetings with the Canucks this season, Bjorkstrand has tallied 10 SOG (four and six). He feels like the best option for shots.
