NHL bets: Five plays for Tuesday 1/17

Owen Tippett is on the wing for the Philly's top line and he's been producing. His shots are way up, averaging 6.4 per game over the last five, and he's tallied six points in his last five home games. This very well could be a goal given his shot volume of late, but I'll opt for the safer play and take his point.

Cole Perfetti point (+104 FD)

I certainly expect Winnipeg to score this evening. High-level, they average 3.2 per game on the road while Montreal allows 3.9 per game at home, plus I expect a power-play goal here, but I'll touch on that more in another play.

Given my belief for goals, I'm quite surprised to see this to be the price for a Cole Perfetti point. The young wing has been rolling for the Jets, racking up six points in his past four games. He's even more steady on road ice, with a point in eight of his last 10 when the visitor.

.5u: Pierre-Luc Dubois & Jeff Skinner over 2.5 SOG (+169 DK)

Montreal and Chicago both allow north of 32 shots per game on home ice, and I expect Winnipeg and Buffalo to capitalize, so naturally I'd like some of the team's top shooters.

Dubois has logged three or more SOGs in six straight and eight of his last nine, and has been steady on the road as well, going over 2.5 in five of six. Dubois has hit in three straight games against the Canadiens, and Montreal is a team that tends to hand out power plays, which suits Dubois' game given he leads Winnipeg in power-play shots.

Skinner has covered his SOG in three straight, averaging 6.4 attempts per game over his last five, and he's hit in nine of his last 13 on the road. Skinner has enjoyed some big games against Chicago the past few seasons, going over 2.5 shots in three straight and seven of his last nine.

.5u: Roman Josi over 3.5 SOG & Jakob Chychrun over 2.5 SOG (+170 CZR)

I love these two defensemen today for shots. Chychrun's placement here is relatively simple: he's destroyed Detroit lately. Over his last three games, Chychrun has piled up 20 SOG on the Red Wings, including two straight outings with eight shots.

He's over 2.5 in six of his last seven against the Detroit and has hit his shots in 63% of games this year.

While Josi unfortunately hasn't delivered consistent big games against Columbus in the past, I'm comfortable overlooking it simply because everything adds up for a big game from the Nashville star.

Josi has 11+ shot attempts in three straight games, covering this 3.5 line each time. Columbus allows 35.6 shots per game on the road and the most to defensemen on the season. The Blue Jackets are also one of the most heavily-penalized teams in the league right now, and Josi paces the Preds with PP shots. Josi has hit this mark in two of his last four against Columbus.

.5u: Winnipeg, Buffalo & Philadelphia over 2.5 goals in regulation (+171 DK)

This is just a simple 3-leg parlay of some watered down team totals, I'll let you pick and choose how you'd prefer to play it once I paint the picture of why these three are on my radar.

I already touched on the Jets above a bit with Perfetti, and initially they already look good for three goals based on season averages. They also sport an above-average power play while Montreal owns the fifth-worst penalty killing rate over the last 10 games. The Jets have scored three or more goals on the Canadiens in seven straight meetings.

Buffalo sure could use a big game after a handful of duds over the past week, and Chicago offers them a nice chance to do so. The Blackhawks are allowing 3.9 goals per game at home this season and the Sabres have piled up 13 goals against them over the last three meetings. Petr Mrazek is now likely to be in net, bringing his inviting 4.26 GAA mark into the game.

Philly is another we're already invested in with Tippett, but I think we can double-dip here against Anaheim. The Flyers have netted at least three against the Ducks in five of their last seven meetings, including a 4-1 win just two weeks ago. Philly was just shut out yesterday against a tough Bruins team, but prior to that had reached three goals in 11 of 12 games. Today offers a nice chance to bounce back.
