NHL best bets: Four props for Friday 2/24

The best way to head into the weekend is with some winners in our pockets, and with prop lines opening up over night, we were able to get a jump start on some of our favorite looks. Keeping it simple tonight with four props in strong matchups.

1.5u: Auston Matthews over 0.5 point & Nathan MacKinnon over 4.5 SOG (+145 DK)

I don't typically play things above 1u, so I hope you can appreciate how much I love these two props.

I never see Matthews down at 0.5 points, and while I know Filip Gustavsson has been solid in net, this shouldn't be a bet available to us. Matthews has a point in 82% of home games dating back to last season and 24 of 27 this year. Toronto is averaging nearly 4 goals/game at home in their last 10 while Minnesota is on a back-to-back and allowing 3.3 goals/game on the road over. their last 10

Matthews has racked up the points vs. the Wild, 10 in nine games.

Then there's MacKinnon. This is a massive game for Colorado, four points behind Winnipeg in the Central Division as the Avalanche sit at No. 8 in the West. MacKinnon has been on fire, ripping off 6+ SOGs in five straight. On the road, he's averaging 6.7 SOG/game on 11.5 attempts/game over his last 10.

He also loves Winnipeg, going for 5+ shots in nine of his last 11, averaging 7 SOG/game. Cale Makar is back out, ICYMI, and it's clear his absence is putting the burden heavy on Mack — he's averaging 5.67 SOG/game with Makar out of the lineup this year. For good measure, the Jets are allowing the 9th-most shots to centers over the past 10 games.

1u: Josh Morrissey over 2.5 SOG (+104 FD)

The Avalanche are allowing the third-most shots to defensemen over the last 10 games, so naturally I poked over to see how Josh Morrissey looks as an option tonight.

The first thing that greeted me was Morrissey having solid SOG success against Colorado, going over 2.5 shots in five of his last six meetings dating back to last season.

The kicker to me was seeing him at home, where he's been an absolute beast. Over his last five games, he's averaging 8.8 attempts/game, which has led to 4.4 SOG/game. I had to grab this immediately to start my day.

1u: Tony DeAngelo over 2.5 SOG (+110 DK)

Philly looks to be in an awesome spot for shots today, as Montreal is allowing a mammoth 38.8 shots/game through their last 10 on the road, and they've been handing out power plays.

Tony DeAngelo is second on the team in shots over their last 10, first in power-play shots, and leads the team in home volume over their past five. He's hit in three straight vs the Habs, twice tallying four shots on goal.

I think Owen Tippett looks fantastic too, but his price is a bit too juiced for me as a straight.

.5u: Teuvo Teravainen over 2.5 SOG (-104 FD)

This is a great opportunity to load up the bounce-back effort. Teravainen went under last game after previously hitting in five straight, and I'll gladly trust he returns to form in an inviting spot for the Canes.

Ottawa allows about 32 shots per game on the road, and the Carolina offense is so high-powered they tend to get their way regardless of opponent. Teravainen has hit this number in four of his last five meetings with the Senators, tallying 20 total SOG in that stretch.

I'm moving Teravainen down to a half-unit wager simply because I may end up loading up the Hurricanes team total shots on goal bet as well, a market I've been loving. Given that, I want to limit my exposure on the individuals just a bit, but Teravainen's history against Ottawa was too good to pass up.
