New York Rangers acquire Nic Petan from Minnesota Wild for Turner Elson

The New York Rangers have acquired Nic Petan from the Minnesota Wild for Turner Elson.

Petan has been primarily playing for the Wild’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Iowa Wild where he has collected 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points in 44 games this season. The 28-year-old has appeared in six games with Minnesota this season registering two assists. Last season, Petan notched 23 goals and 62 points in 53 AHL games.

Throughout his career, Petan has notched 92 goals and 189 assists for 281 points in 281 career AHL games over parts of eight seasons with the Wild, Manitoba Moose, Toronto Marlies and Abbotsford Canucks. At the NHL level, the Delta, British Columbia product has appeared in 170 games over parts of nine seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Wild.

Elson has also been in the AHL this season with the Rangers’ affiliate the Hartford Wolf Pack. Elson has collected five goals and 12 points in 38 games this season with Hartford. The 31-year-old has spent the last couple of seasons with the Wolf Pack after coming over from the Detroit Red Wings. Elson was originally signed by the Calgary Flames following a four-year WHL career with the Red Deer Rebels.

The New Westminster, British Columbia product made his NHL debut in 2015-16 and has appeared in three NHL games over parts of two seasons with the Flames and Red Wings. Elson has collected 117 goals and 146 assists for 263 points and 433 penalty minutes in 579 AHL games with the Wolf Pack, Stockton Heat, and Grand Rapids Griffins.
