Jets' Appleton placed on injured reserve

The Winnipeg Jets have announced that forward Mason Appleton has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 5.

Appleton practiced with the Jets in a non-contact jersey on Tuesday. Jets coach Rick Bowness told reporters that he expects Appleton and Pierre-Luc Dubois (lower-body injury) to play against the New York Rangers on Friday.

This is especially of note because the Jets will have to make a roster move if Appleton is to play on Oct. 14. Axel Jonsson-Fjallby had issues with his work visa, but the Jets hope he’ll be ready to go by Thursday. The Jets don’t have anyone on LTIR, but have 24 players – including Appleton and Jonsson-Fjallby – on the roster.

Appleton, 26, returned to the Jets last year after playing the first 49 games with the Seattle Kraken. Appleton had 21 points in 68 games, four points shy of his previous best from 2020-21. A bottom-six forward, Appleton had no points in four pre-season games while averaging 14:04 a night.
