Jason Botterill Likely Out of Running for Penguins Front Office
USA TODAY Sports

In what was set to be one of the busiest weeks of the offseason, the Pittsburgh Penguins continue to narrow down their list of front office candidates.

The Penguins are looking to fill the general manager position as well as a president of hockey operations with separate hires.

Over the last few weeks, upwards of 20 names have been rumored to be part of the interview process, but a slimmer list as part of the second phase.

One name in particular, however, may have been shooting for more than what the Penguins were willing to give.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the Jeff Marek show, Jason Botterill was eyeing the president of hockey operations position in Pittsburgh.

Friedman said he’s been receiving fairly mixed responses when it comes to Botterill, but it’s believed the current Seattle Kraken assistant general manager wanted the higher role.

Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff also said he couldn’t get a good read on Botterill’s status in the running for a front office position.

It’s easy to note that Botterill has definitely been involved, but it’s possible that he is no longer in the running.

The Penguins have been without a general manager for over a month now and as they enter the second phase of their search, a conclusion may be made soon.

Seravalli believes the Penguins will have a hire made by next week.
