The Buffalo Sabres have placed defenseman Jacob Bryson on waivers Monday.

Bryson headlines three players who were waived by their respective clubs, Ryan Shea of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Lucas Johansen of the Washington Capitals were also designated to waivers to be sent down to the American Hockey League.

Bryson has appeared in three games with the Sabres this season, he has served as a healthy scratch for the last 20 games. With the Sabres getting Jack Quinn back this week, this move opens up a roster spot to activate Quinn. During the 2022-23 campaign, he notched one goal and eight assists for nine points in 59 games.

Shea, 26. has appeared in 26 games with the Penguins this season. He signed a one-year contract worth $750,000 in the summer. He has spent his entire pro career with the AHL’s Texas Stars, recording 66 points in 163 games over four years. Shea had a career-best 32 points in 2021-22, his first season in the league. The Milton, Massachusetts native was originally drafted No. 121 overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Draft but didn’t sign with the team and would join the Dallas Stars instead. He had a four-year run in the NCAA with Northeastern University, winning the Hockey East title in 2018-19. He also represented the United States at the 2021 World Hockey Championship, recording one assist in three games.

Johansen has one assist in six games with the Capitals through the 2023-24 season so far. The Port Moody, British Columbia native had seven points in 40 games last season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears and added two goals and six points in 20 Calder Cup Playoff contests as the Bears won the Calder Cup. In nine career NHL games, Johansen has two assists.
