Islanders’ Pierre Engvall is day-to-day with an upper-body injury
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders announced on Tuesday that forward Pierre Engvall is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Engvall wasn’t listed in the team’s lineup for their Tuesday game against the Winnipeg Jets, which some speculated as him being a healthy scratch. However, the team sent out the tweet before puck drop to confirm that it was injury related.

Through 41 games this season, Engvall has five goals and nine assists for 14 points. However, the 27-year-old forward only has one goal in his last 17 games. Engvall is in the first year of a seven-year, $21 million contract he signed last July.

Engvall is in his fifth NHL season and has scored 52 goals and 54 assists for 106 points in 285 career NHL games. Through most of his first four seasons, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who drafted Engvall in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

He scored a career-high 30 points (15 goals and 20 assists) with the Maple Leafs in 2021-22, then followed it up with 17 goals in 2022-23. Before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, the Maple Leafs traded Engvall to the Islanders for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

While in the Maple Leafs’ organization, Engvall helped the team’s AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, win the 2018 Calder Cup, scoring three goals and five assists for eight points through 20 playoff games.

The Islanders are 19-14-19 with 48 points through 43 games, fifth in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division, which going into Tuesday night was one point back of one of the East’s Wild Card spots. After their game against the Jets, they travel to Illinois to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
