Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta leaves Game 2 vs. Bruins after collision

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta left Game 2 of their first-round series against the Boston Bruins after a collision with Bruins forward David Pastrnak.

Raanta was injured around eight minutes into the first period, clearing a puck from just outside his crease before colliding with Pastrnak. Raanta was in the middle of his follow-through and couldn't defend himself from the collision that appeared to target his head.

The Hurricanes announced later that Raanta was out for the remainder of Game 2 with an upper-body injury.

On Monday, Raanta turned away 35 of 36 shots, earning the win in Carolina's 5-1 victory in Game 1 over the Bruins.

In his first season with the Hurricanes, Raanta went 15-5-4 with a .912 save percentage and 2.45 goals-against average in 26 starts.

The nine-year veteran has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Hurricanes. In 205 career starts, Raanta is 108-70-24 with a .919 SV% and a 2.46 GAA.

Carolina's backup goaltender, Pyotr Kochetkov, would likely be asked to carry the load should Raanta miss more time. The 22-year-old was a second-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2019. Kochetkov has played in three regular-season games for Carolina, going 3-0-0 with a .902 SV% and 2.42 GAA.
