The Chicago Blackhawks scored three goals–something that would have been plausible for a win in three of their last five games. Yet tonight? It was Seth Jones to the rescue after the Hawks squandered a two-goal lead.

Seth Jones Justly Rewarded With a Game Winning Goal

It’s been a long time coming and certainly a source of frustration for some fans who believe that Jones is severely overpaid for what he produces. Never mind that much of what he does isn’t measured as prominently as the blocked shots, hits, and ice time he logs.

But for him to get the game winning goal in a contest where the Blackhawks struggled to keep a two-goal lead. It’s a fitting hero who is often too busy doing the hard work and not seeing the just reward. He got it tonight in the way of his first goal of the season–which also rescued the Blackhawks from what would have been a disappointing loss.

Get Some Goals But How Is It Not Enough in Regulation?

They took their foot off the gas while the Islanders skill kept driving the net. Forgive the Blackhawks for a moment–it hasn’t been often this season they’ve held multi-goal leads, but the insane part is when they have–they’ve lost. But the Hawks who peppered the net more than the Islanders through two were on the other side of things in the third, seeing New York blast them 12-3 in the final frame. So isn’t it fitting that after scoring as many regulation goals in its previous three games combined the Blackhawks not only surrender a lead, but possibly lose in the end, too?

I don’t know what it was about the play, but I think it’s because his chance was stuffed and he came right back around and then buried a shot further out. On the goal, he even retrieved his own shot that was turned away to the corner.

Perhaps it’s that and how he scored his shootout goal the other night that sticks with me.
