Eagles Defenseman Hunt Earns AHL First-Team Honors
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The American Hockey League announced its First and Second All-Star Teams on Thursday. Amongst those honored, Colorado Eagles defenseman Brad Hunt was awarded First-Team All-Star in his second year with AHL Colorado. Hunt was the sole recipient from the Eagles honored for the 2023-24 season.

This is the third time that Hunt has been awarded an end-of-season All-Star nod. His first two awards came in back-to-back campaigns with the Oklahoma City Barons. In 2013-14, he was honored with a Second-Team honor. In 2014-15, he was given the First-Team award.

Hunt currently leads all defensemen for shots on goal (218), also ranking fourth in the AHL overall. He’s tied for first amongst d-men – with Springfield’s Dylan Coghlan – for goals (16). Hunt is also tied with Coghlan for second amongst defensemen in power play goals (5). He sits alone in second place for defenseman points (49). He also leads the Eagles with 33 assists and his 49 total points.

Hunt has played 222 NHL games and 381 AHL games in 13 seasons of pro hockey. His NHL statline includes 26 goals and 60 assists for 86 total points; his AHL statline consists of 80 goals and 199 assists for a total of 279 points. Hunt also has a gold medal to his credit, helping lead Team Canada to victory in the 2023 IIHF World Championships with three assists in 10 games played.

This is the first All-Star nod for the Eagles since both defenseman Jordan Gross (First-Team) and forward Kiefer Sherwood (Second-Team) were honored in 2021-22. Then-Eagles forward T.J. Tynan also earned a Pacific Division All-Star award in 2020-21. The only other AHL Colorado player to earn an All-Star award was defenseman Jacob MacDonald, who was named to the Second-Team in 2019-20.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The Eagles finish up the regular season with back-to-back home games against Ontario (Saturday at 7:05pm MDT and Sunday at 3:05pm MDT). The Reign are currently third in the Pacific Division with 87 points, while the Eagles are fourth with 83 points. If Colorado wins both games, they will jump Ontario for third place based on regulation wins. The Eagles will also clinch home-ice advantage for round one if they sweep the weekend.
