Cutter Gauthier, Devin Kaplan, Cole Knuble Begin Play in Summer Showcase on Saturday

Philadelphia Flyers forward prospects Cutter Gauthier, Devin Kaplan and Cole Knuble begin play in the World Junior Summer Showcase on Saturday afternoon.

Knuble plays for Team USA Blue, which plays Sweden at 1 p.m. Gauthier and Kaplan play for Team USA White, which plays Finland at 4 p.m.

Gauthier will be a sophomore at Boston College; Kaplan will be a sophomore at Boston University; and Knuble will be a freshman at Notre Dame.

Gauthier played in the World Championships and the World Junior Championships in the past year.

The Summer Showcase, held in Plymouth, Mich., a Detroit suburb, will serve as an evaluation for players hoping to make their national teams for the World Junior Championships. The Worlds are from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Each team will play four games in the round-robin format. Games also will be played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Canada is not competing for the second consecutive year.

Forty-five American players were invited to compete.

The Schedule:

Monday, July 31

USA Blue vs. Finland, 4 p.m.

USA White vs. Sweden, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 2

Sweden vs. Finland, 1 p.m.

USA White vs. USA Blue, 4 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 4

USA Blue vs. Sweden,  1 p.m.

USA White vs. Finland, 4 p.m.
