Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Jordan Dumais suspended by QMJHL team for off-ice incident

According to Global News, Halifax Mooseheads forward Jordan Dumais was arrested and has been given a five-game suspension by the club after being charged by police for driving under the influence.

According to Global News, Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Const. Paul DesRochers is quoted by Global News as saying that the police stopped a car driven by someone with “signs of impairment from the driver and arrested them” on March 1 around 2:20 AM.

“Since this is an off-ice infraction, the matter was handled internally while the team remained in constant communication with the league,” a Mooseheads team statement said. “The QMJHL and the Mooseheads expect impeccable behavior from all their players, on and off the ice.”

The team did not address the nature of the incident.

Dumais will miss the remainder of the QMJHL regular season and the first game of the playoffs. After undergoing surgery in January, the high-scoring winger was listed as being healthy enough to return before the suspension. The winger had to repair a lower abdominal injury that reappeared during a difficult World Junior Championship for the winger.

Dumais is viewed as a top prospect in the organization. The 19-year-old is coming off a 140-point season with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads last year. Dumais missed the start of the season with an upper-body injury but still played at a 130-point pace before leaving for camp with Canada.

The 19-year-old from Longueil, Quebec has 16 goals and 47 points in 21 games this season, his fourth year in the QMJHL.

The Moosheads sit second in the Eastern Conference, which is a strong result given they’re missing their top point producer. Dumais’ suspension started Thursday, with Halifax finishing its regular season homestand with a 4-2 win over Charlottetown. The Moosheads will take on the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday before capping off the regular season with two games against the Saint John Sea Dogs next Friday and Saturday.
