Charlie Coyle (hat trick), Bruins pull away from Isles

Charlie Coyle registered his first career hat trick and added an assist as the Boston Bruins beat the visiting New York Islanders 5-2 on Thursday night.

Boston scored four of the game's final five goals, including the final three to untie a 2-2 game late in the third period.

David Pastrnak had a goal and two assists, Trent Frederic added a goal and an assist and James van Riemdsyk and Brad Marchand each had two helpers for Boston, which has won three of four November games and is 6-0-1 on home ice.

Van Riemsdyk and Coyle notched their 600th and 400th career points, respectively, during the game.

Linus Ullmark improved to 5-1-1 with a 27-save effort.

Brock Nelson and Simon Holmstrom each lit the lamp for the Islanders, who are 0-2-1 in their last three games.

Holmstrom has scored in three of his last four contests.

Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves.

The Bruins had a 35-29 edge in shots. The teams were a combined 3-for-4 on the power play, with Boston going 2-for-3 on its opportunities.

At 2:50 of the third, a busy Boston power play began with Holmstrom scoring a shorthanded goal to knot the score at 2-2. Jean-Gabriel Pageau set up Holmstrom with a quick pass on a 2-on-1 rush that began at the defensive blue line.

Pastrnak responded with the eventual game-winner at 3:33, sending a shot from the left circle through traffic and beating Sorokin five-hole following a dish from Kevin Shattenkirk.

Coyle's second goal of the night came at 9:26 as he strode to the net front and buried a van Riemsdyk feed. He capped the hat trick and second career four-point game on an empty-net goal with 1:21 left.

Boston got the scoring started at 14:05 of a high-pace first period. After Coyle took a puck away along the right wall, a van Riemsdyk pass from behind the goal line set up Frederic for a wrist shot goal from the high slot.

Nelson tipped home Noah Dobson's shot just outside the crease for a power-play goal as the visitors drew even at 17:23.

New York had a 15-12 first-period shots advantage before the teams combined for only 11 in a middle frame that ended with 8:25 of continuous play.

The Bruins regained the lead 6:06 into the second when Coyle finished off a great man-up passing sequence, taking Pavel Zacha's pass for the goal from the bumper position in the low slot.

The Islanders played without defenseman Adam Pelech, who was considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury before the game.
