Canucks place Dickinson on IR, recall Petan from Abbotsford

The Vancouver Canucks have made a pair of roster moves in advance of Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

The Canucks announced that they have placed forward Jason Dickinson on injured reserve and recalled Nic Petan from the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Canucks.

Dickinson, 26, has not played since Feb. 24, when he was forced to leave Vancouver’s game against the Calgary Flames after being sent crashing into the boards by opposing defenceman Erik Gudbranson.

The Canucks acquired Dickinson from the Dallas Stars last July in exchange for a third-round pick. The left-handed centre has three goals and six points in 49 games with the Canucks this season.

“He’s going to try to skate again tomorrow,” Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau told the media on Tuesday. “I mean, he can be put on IR, it’s only seven days retroactive in that. I’m hoping he can skate tomorrow and he feels better and if he does, great. If not, then we’ll just, you know, it’ll be prolonged a little bit longer.”

Petan, 26, has yet to make his Vancouver Canucks debut after signing a one-year deal with the team in the 2021 free agency period. The former Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs forward has six goals and 28 points in 136 career NHL games.

Playing for the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks this season, Petan currently ranks third on that team with 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) in 37 games.

It remains to be seen if Petan will be in the Canucks’ lineup when they take on the New Jersey Devils at Rogers Arena on Tuesday night (7:00 p.m. PT, SNP).
