Canucks' Nils Hoglander likely done for season with lower-body injury

Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander hasn't played since the March 15 win over the New Jersey Devils and won't be back anytime soon. It appears Vancouver may shut him down until the fall.

According to the NHL's website, Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters Wednesday that Hoglander likely won't play again this season as he attempts to recover from an unspecified lower-body injury.

"I think he's out long term. Week to week right now," Boudreau commented. "There's only 4-5 weeks left in the regular season so it would be hard-pressed right now for me to say he's going to come back before then."

Per Patrick Johnston of The Province, Hoglander appeared to suffer an injury to his upper left leg or groin during a practice back on March 16. Boudreau didn't confirm the nature of the setback that has sidelined the 21-year-old through the second half of the month, but a source told Johnston that Hoglander hurt his groin.

Assuming Hoglander won't take the ice again this spring, he'll end his sophomore NHL season with 10 goals and eight assists tallied across 60 games.

The Canucks, meanwhile, will head into Wednesday's home matchup against the St. Louis Blues four points behind the Dallas Stars in the race for the conference's last wild-card playoff berth.
