Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers out two to four weeks with lower-body injury

The Vancouver Canucks will be starting their season without top-four defenseman Tyler Myers after he was banged up earlier in the week.

According to Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau, the towering rearguard will miss anywhere from two-to-four weeks with a lower-body injury.

On Thursday, Myers missed practice and Boudreau said the injury was believed to be day-to-day. This, clearly, has changed over the course of the last day. Myers played in the Canucks’ Wednesday night game against the Edmonton Oilers and suffered a lower-body injury.

Myers, 32, is entering his fourth year with the Canucks and is coming off a season that saw him score one goal and 18 points while positing a career-best +15 rating. He was penciled in on the Canucks’ second pair alongside Oliver Ekman-Larrson, but now it’s likely that Luke Schenn will slide up the lineup to fill Myers’ spot.

The short end of Myers’ projected return would put him back in the Canucks’ lineup sometime around the 20th, which would coincide with Vancouver’s home opener on the 22nd. They start their season with a five-game road trip.

The Canucks play their final preseason game Friday night taking on the Arizona Coyotes and they open their season on the road next Wednesday in Edmonton.
