Canadiens’ Lane Hutson showing size isn’t an issue early on in NHL career 

Montreal Canadiens defenseman and top prospect Lane Hutson made his highly anticipated National Hockey League debut on Monday and after two games is already proving that his 5-foot-10 frame isn’t an issue in the NHL after notching two assists.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and NCAA hockey analyst Colby Cohen discuss Hutson’s debut and how he has looked early on.

Frank Seravall: Colby, watching Lane Hutson make his NHL debut and seeing him make that jump from BU to the NHL was great, loved seeing people say, “This guy, at his size, can’t do this in the NHL.”

Colby Cohen: I would highly disagree with that, Lane Hutson was doing Lane Hutson things. I watched him okay at Boston University for two years and his poise with the puck is as good as I have seen at the D1 level. Two games in the NHL, and two primary assists already for Hutson. I think Hutson is going to be just fine in the NHL, his skating is dynamic, his puck control and vision are dynamic and I think for him it will be an adjustment of playing defense and defending against the best players in the world. But, I think there is going to be plenty of room for Hutson to spread his wings in the NHL.

Frank Seravalli: Will NHL teams finally stop measuring scouting with a tape measure? Look at some of those past guys who made the jump from the NCAA to the NHL. People said Johnny Gaudreau would never do it at the NHL level, Cole Caufield, and now Lane HUtson is just another example.
