Cam Talbot has a new contract in place. The veteran goaltender has signed a new deal with the Los Angeles Kings. Talbot will have a one-year deal worth $1 million.

After being traded from the Minnesota Wild to the Ottawa Senators, you’d think that he would’ve spent more time there. However, Talbot is moving on. Fortunately for him, he has a permanent spot and can be the true number-one goaltender for the team. Talbot brings a lot of veteran experience and depth to the position. He believes in himself and the team believes in him as well.

Why Talbot Earned His Contract

Cam Talbot has always been a reliable goalie. Over the course of his career, Talbot owns a 2.65 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. With the Minnesota Wild, Talbot had a record of 32-12-4. In addition, Talbot had strong numbers with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He had a strong season for the Wild, but after the club opting to retain Marc-Andre Fleury the trade happened.

After the move to Ottawa, he maintained a winning record. However, his goals-against average dropped to 2.93 as well as his save percentage of .898. His goals saved above expected was at -0.7. Overall, Talbot was a strong goalie and a reason why (enter a team) is taking a chance on him.

What The Future Means For Both Player And Team

Cam Talbot has a new contract and it benefits both parties. Goalie is the most important position on the ice. In this day and age of hockey, having more than one capable goalie is ideal. It has worked for the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes in a 1A/1B tandem. Talbot is a proven player and capable of working in that type of role. In addition, he sees himself as a true number-one goalie and can take the job while it’s there. At the end of the day, this is great for both sides and the value is there for the player.
