Bystedt ‘Uncertain’ Where He’s Playing Next Year, Lund on His Preferred Position

The San Jose Sharks prospects weren’t on holiday on Independence Day.

But they were happy to be in San Jose, to begin their three-day development camp. For fans, it will be their first chance to see the team’s newest draft picks and catch up with some of the older prospects. Many of the prospects will be showcased at the team’s prospect scrimmage this Thursday.

Two of those prospects — 2022 selections Filip Bystedt and Cameron Lund — caught up with local media today.

Lund talked about what his most comfortable position is, while Bystedt looks forward to possibly transitioning to North American hockey soon.

Cam Lund

Lund on the improvements he wants to make in his game:

For me personally, I think the biggest part of my game I want to try to improve is being more reliable and defensive. So, just watching more videos with our coaches and even getting in the weight room too.

Lund on where he played at Northeastern:

For the most part, I just played right wing. I felt most comfortable on [the] right wing after playing with Green Bay, I played the last half of the year at right wing.

I play with two good players with [Justin] Hryckowian and [Aidan] McDonough. So I felt that was a good fit.

Lund on who he models his game after:

I think my mind is still set: I wanna play like Jack Eichel. I’ve always tried to watch him, even in college. That’s one guy I try to watch a lot of video on and model my game after.

Bystedt on what led to a successful World Juniors:

The start of the season, coming in with the SHL team. Getting better and better each game builds some confidence. We had a couple of weeks before the tournament in Detroit. Got to know the guys and the smaller rink. Good preparation.

Bystedt, on where he plans to play this year, the San Jose Sharks, San Jose Barracuda, or Linkoping:

I will talk to these guys after camp. It’s uncertain.

Bystedt on talking to San Jose Sharks prospect William Eklund about coming to North America.

[We] talked about the transition, the difference between the play styles in Swedeen and here with the smaller rink… [He said] it’s a bit different. In the SHL, you have to skate more. Here, you can more think with your brain. It’s closer areas. You don’t have as much time as you have back home.

Bystedt on playing with Mattias Havelid:

I think he’s one of the smartest defensemen I’ve played with. As a center with him on the ice, when I call for it, I will get it on the tape. He’s so smart. He plays the puck to forwards [with] ease. He’s so easy to play with.
