Why former Pro Bowl WR says 'it’s over' for Bills

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes the Buffalo Bills won't recover from defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier taking at least a year off from coaching. 

"It’s over for Buffalo. It’s over," Marshall said on the latest "I AM ATHLETE" podcast, according to Nick O'Malley of MassLive. "I’m telling you, that defense -- nice. It’s the coach. You can keep his scheme, but you can’t keep his leadership. 'Yo, let me go talk to this player like this. Let me go meet this one where they’re at. Let me go challenge this one. Let me cut this one.' So you can keep the scheme, but he ain’t there." 

Maddy Glab of the Bills' website noted that Frazier "plans" to return for the 2024 campaign.

"Since 2017, the Bills have allowed an average of 20 points per game (3rd in the NFL over that span), 315 total yards per game (1st), 202 passing yards per game (1st), 107 passing touchdowns (1st), have racked up 99 interceptions (2nd) and 158 takeaways (2nd)," Glab added. 

Per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, head coach Sean McDermott admitted this past Tuesday the Bills will "miss" Frazier this year. McDermott ultimately may call defensive plays during games beginning in September. 

Marshall, who serves as an analyst for Showtime's "Inside the NFL" program, also suggested he thinks Buffalo wide receiver Stefon Diggs could soon have a new football home. Diggs appeared quite upset at quarterback Josh Allen during the 27-10 playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January and then reportedly considered leaving the stadium before the post-game talk.
