The Washington State football program is in a tough position moving forward. With the Pac-12 dissolving, they are one of two teams that are being left behind in the conference reshuffling. Now, they will have to find a new quarterback. Starting quarterback Cam Ward announced he will enter the transfer portal.

Washington State QB Cam Ward Enters Transfer Portal

It isn’t a surprise to see Ward enter the portal. Players want to be a part of big games in prestigious conferences. With the Pac-12 being no more, it makes sense that players of Ward’s caliber are going to look for a new home. He will enter as a graduate transfer. Ward put up great stats this year where he threw for 3,736 yards and 25 TDs to seven interceptions. The move signals a likely complete rebuild for the Cougars program.

Wild Week Of College Football

This week has been absolutely wild. The number of quarterbacks alone that have entered the portal is mind-boggling. It seems that many players are trying to improve their situation using the portal. Some of them, like Ward, make sense. The program is going through massive changes and if he has NFL dreams, he will need to be in front of scouts often. However, all of this player movement does make it difficult to know exactly where programs stand going into 2024. Once the dust settles we will have more of an idea but right now it is chaos.

Where will Cam Ward end up? Miami, Ohio State, and Texas A&M are the early front runners though the Aggies seem to have found their man. There will be no shortage of programs that need quarterbacks so Smith will likely be heavily recruited.
