Washington signing LB Mychal Kendricks from Seahawks practice squad

The Washington Football Team is signing linebacker Mychal Kendricks from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Washington has been depleted at linebacker. Outside linebackers Cole Holcomb and Kevin Pierre-Louis both missed Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Holcomb is in the concussion protocol while Pierre-Louis has an ankle injury.

Shaun Dion Hamilton and rookie Khaleke Hudson started in their place. However, Hamilton suffered an elbow injury that knocked him from Sunday’s game in the third quarter. Seldom used veteran Thomas Davis stepped in but his struggles were evident on a Carlos Hyde 50-yard touchdown run.

Kendricks will be available to play this week against the Carolina Panthers, as he will bypass the six-day pre-entry COVID-19 testing by flying to the team privately, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

Kendricks suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 of the 2019 season. He hasn’t played in a game this season, spending much of the year on the Seahawks practice. He signed in October but the Seahawks released him in November. However, he was signed back to the practice squad the next day.

Kendricks also spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before his three-year stint with the Seahawks. He had signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns in 2018. However, the Browns released him ahead of the season after he was charged by federal prosecutors for insider trading.

He pleaded guilty to and faces up to 25 years in prison. His sentencing is set for January, 13 2021 after two years of hearing delays.
