Vikings To Sign Dolphins Edge Rusher Andrew Van Ginkel
Jim Rassol / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to sign Miami Dolphins edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel, according to Jason Sarney of Dolphins Talk.

It’s a two-year, $20 million deal that features $14 million in guaranteed money, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This marks the second big-time pass rusher the Vikings have agreed to terms with on Monday, as they also reached a pact with Houston Texans star Jonathan Greenard earlier in the day.

Van Ginkel is coming off of an impressive 2023 campaign in which he played every game and racked up 69 tackles, six sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin, was selected by the Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He appeared in just six contests during his rookie campaign, logging six tackles and one sack. The following year, Van Ginkel broke through, participating in every game and finishing with 48 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a defensive score.

Van Ginkel then had a solid season in 2021, once again playing in every game and registering 71 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and seven passes defended.

The Rock Valley, Ia. native proceeded to take a significant step back in 2022, recording 47 tackles, a half of a sack and a pick.

But, Van Ginkel obviously rebounded in a big way this past season, putting forth what was certainly the best year of his NFL career to date.

The Vikings will almost certainly be losing top edge rusher Danielle Hunter to free agency, but they have done a fine job replacing him by bringing in Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel.
