Two Young Miami Dolphins Players Get New Agents
USA TODAY Sports

Cornerback Kader Kohou and offensive lineman Robert Jones are the two of the most recent success stories for the Miami Dolphins when it comes to rookie free agents making the team and contributing.

Now, they have something else in common: Each has hired a new agent this offseason.

Kohou was the latest to do it, signing with David Canter and GSE, who also represent Xavien Howard, among others.

Kohou is about to enter the second year of a three-year contract he signed as a rookie in 2022. He's scheduled to make $1.855 over the next two seasons before he becomes a restricted free agent in 2025.

Jones' agent change came last week when he joined Drew Rosenhaus and Rosenhaus Sports Representation.

Jones is headed into the final year of his rookie free agent contract, which calls for a $940,000 salary. He'll become an RFA next offseason if he doesn't sign an extension before then, and that's obviously where Rosenhaus comes in.

While Liam Eichenberg looks like the front-runner to be the starting left guard in 2023, Jones conceivably could find himself in the mix with a strong training camp. Jones started seven games last season after Eichenberg was sidelined and performed admirably by all accounts.

Kohou was even more impactful, starting 13 games at cornerback opposite Xavien Howard in the absence of veteran Byron Jones. He had an impressive opponent passer rating of 81.7, according to Pro Football Reference, and had one interception — against Aaron Rodgers on Christmas Day.

Kohou's role in 2023 is a bit unclear after the addition of Jalen Ramsey to the secondary, but he played well enough as a rookie that he figures to get a lot of snaps on defense.

With another strong season, he could cement his standing on the team moving forward, though the time for a second contract for Kohou likely wouldn't be until the 2024 offseason at least.

But it never hurts to be prepared.
