Troubled former first-round pick to work out with Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are expected to host a troubled former first-round pick for a workout this week.

Linebacker Reuben Foster is scheduled to work out with the Dolphins on Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Miami is looking for depth at the position in part because Jerome Baker suffered an MCL injury in Sunday’s win over the Washington Commanders.

The 29-year-old Foster was taken by the San Francisco 49ers with the 31st overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a star at Alabama and projected to make a big impact in the NFL, but he played in just 16 games over two seasons and was cut in 2018 amid several troubling legal issues.

Foster was then claimed off waivers by Washington in a controversial move that the team had to defend. He never played in a game for Washington after tearing his ACL on the first day of OTAs before the 2019 season.

Foster has been playing for the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers as he aims to prove he can still provide value in the NFL.
